Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the staff of the East Crimean Historical and Cultural Museum‑Reserve of the Republic of Crimea on its 200th anniversary.

The message reads, in part:

“The museum was founded by gifted scholars, archaeologists and local historians. Through their selfless and painstaking efforts, their enthusiasm and creative energy, the museum has developed into a major educational, cultural and tourist centre of Crimea and the entire country. Its extensive collections carefully preserve authentic masterpieces of the Northern Black Sea region – priceless, world‑renowned collections of ceramics and jewellery, numismatics and stone antiquities. The museum is rightly proud of its Hermitage School of Restoration and the Bosporan Agons festival of ancient art.

A special place within the museum’s display is accorded to unique relics that recount the heroic chapters of Kerch’s history, as well as the courage and resilience demonstrated by Soviet soldiers and civilians during the defence of the Adzhimushkay quarries.

It is gratifying that the present‑day team is faithfully continuing the work of its predecessors, while developing new, contemporary methods of engaging visitors of all ages and professions. You conduct substantive research, methodological and military-patriotic work, and you organise excursions and travelling exhibitions, readers’ conferences and educational lectures for students, schoolchildren, veterans, soldiers and officers of the Russian Armed Forces.”
