The Great Miami Hurricane of 1926: 100 Years of Hurricane Forecasting and Research

Predicting extreme weather events and warning the public was much more difficult before we had satellites, aircraft reconnaissance, computer models, radio, television, and the internet. In this talk, we will discuss the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926 and its effects, our understanding of weather and the state of forecasting at the time, what we learned from this event, and how we have advanced in the following 100 years.
