Following a complaint by the Public Ministry of Ceará, through the 3rd Prosecutor's Office of Santa Quitéria, a man was sentenced to 36 years in prison for the sexual abuse of a vulnerable person, committed against his own granddaughter, in at least three occasions. The crime occurred in the municipality between 2021 and 2023, during which the child was between 9 and 11 years old.
According to the investigation, even with the victim's denials during the abuse, he threatened her, saying that both would be arrested if she told anyone about the facts.
The case was discovered after a lecture on sexual violence held at the child's school. The victim reported the abuse to the teacher, who reported the situation to the administration. The parents were notified and the case was forwarded to the police authorities.
With the complaint from the Public Ministry, the Justice recognized the occurrence of three independent crimes of sexual abuse of a vulnerable person, as they occurred in different contexts and locations. In the sentence, 12 years of imprisonment were imposed for each, totaling 36 years. The family relationship was also a factor in increasing the sentence. The convicted person must also pay R$ 30,000 in moral damages to the victim.
The Public Ministry of Ceará will appeal the decision in order to seek an increase in the convicted person's sentence, due to the emotional consequences that the crime caused to the victim.
