Near miss at Hopperton Old Station user worked crossing

At around 08:26 on 27 August 2026, a passenger train had a near miss with a telehandler at Hopperton Old Station user worked crossing in North Yorkshire. No injuries were reported, and no damage was caused, although a collision was only narrowly avoided.

Hopperton Old Station user worked crossing is equipped with gates and telephones at either side. Signs at the crossing instruct users in vehicles to contact the signaller and obtain their permission before opening the gates and crossing the railway. The evidence available to RAIB shows that the driver of the telehandler had telephoned the signaller and obtained permission to use the crossing before the near miss occurred.
