Russian strike hits commuter train in Kharkiv region, killing one and injuring seven

The Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) reported the attack on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

“The enemy struck a commuter train in the Kharkiv region. The threat was detected by a monitoring team of the Ukrzaliznytsia, after which passengers were evacuated,” the statement said.

According to preliminary information, two passengers sustained serious injuries because they did not move to a safe distance from the train during the evacuation.

Rescuers and medics are currently heading to the scene.

As of noon, one person was reported killed and six others injured.

“Several carriages are currently on fire, including the first and second. The aftermath of the strike is being dealt with at the scene. The community is sending two buses to the site of the strike to transport the electric train passengers to Nova Vodolaha. One person was killed and six were injured as a result of the Russian strike on the electric train,” Suspilne quoted Oleksandr Yesin, Head of the Nova Vodolaha community, as saying.

According to Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, the victim was a 40-year-old man.

“Seven people were injured and are receiving medical assistance,” Syniehubov said.

According to him, the train was struck by a drone.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers has regulated the operation of rail transport when yellow and red threat levels for airborne attacks are declared. The new rules will remain in effect throughout the period of martial law.
