The Judicial Police, through the Lisbon and Tejo Directorate, arrested a foreign citizen, 71 years old, strongly suspected of committing a crime of child sexual abuse, which occurred in July, in Colares, Sintra, with a six-year-old girl as the victim.
The facts came to the knowledge of this Police through an anonymous denunciation presented on August 11th, by a person who had witnessed circumstances that could indicate the commission of the crime.
Following the denunciation, the PJ carried out investigative activities, in which relevant evidentiary elements were collected to clarify the facts and to support the suspicion against the now arrested person.
The man has a criminal record for drug trafficking offenses, having already served a prison sentence in the national territory.
After becoming aware of the existence of the investigation, the suspect absconded for an uncertain period, remaining in an unknown location for more than a month. Upon being located by the PJ, the arrest warrant issued by the competent judicial authority was executed.
The detainee will be present today for his first judicial interrogation before the Sintra Court, where appropriate coercive measures will be applied.
