Evangelicals do not represent a monolithic bloc, they are not a homogeneous mass. It is impossible to assert that they all think alike, vote the same way, or have identical experiences. On the contrary, they are people like any other Brazilians, they are workers, they have their own experiences, and they face their own dilemmas.
According to Fonseca, there are religious leaders who are disconnected from the reality of evangelical people in Brazil. "These leaders are much more media-oriented, they are very distant from the reality of the large evangelical population, a Edir Macedo, a Silas Malafaia, and many others, right? They live in a socio-economic condition completely different from the vast majority of pastors we find in the territories."
Fonseca points out that there is a stigmatization of evangelical people. Therefore, she advocates for a better listening to the aspirations of this population, who, according to her, are part of the most vulnerable category in our society.
Most evangelicals today are poor, peripheral, workers. If you don't talk to these people, how do you propose public policies that will meet the needs of these workers? Of these women who need daycares for their children? It's almost impossible.
