Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to faculty members, students, post-graduates and graduates of the Russian University of Transport (MIIT) on its 130th anniversary.
The message reads, in part:
“Established in 1896, your university has immensely contributed to developing Russia’s transport system and strengthening its economic and technological potential. The university’s history is inextricably linked with the names of outstanding scientists and educators, real innovators and hard-working specialists, with the great achievements of graduates who built the Trans-Siberian Railway, the Turkestan-Siberia Railway and the Baikal-Amur Mainline, who took part in developing Siberia, Russia’s Far East and the Arctic, and made a great contribution to defeating the enemy during the Great Patriotic War.
It is thanks to many generations of outstanding specialists, their talent, knowledge and experience that your university established itself as a standard-bearer of the Russian engineering school. These days, while relying on its excellent track record in promoting fundamental knowledge, as well as its unique scientific and educational capabilities, the university trains sought-after specialists, undertakes major research projects and expert activity, takes part in carrying out projects of national and strategic importance, including expanding the Eastern Operating Domain, enhancing the capabilities of the Transarctic Transport Corridor, and building a network of high-speed railways.”
