The Education and Culture Committee (CE) of the Senate may vote on the project creating the National Day of Afro-Brazilian Dance (PL 3.420/2024The chosen date is August 18, in honor of Mercedes Baptista, the first black ballerina of the Theatro Municipal of Rio de Janeiro and one of the pioneers of Afro-Brazilian dance. The text includes a favorable report from Senator Paulo Paim (PT-RS).
