A man, originally from Sapucaia do Sul, who was under investigation for deaths in Santa Catarina, including a femicide, was arrested on Monday, September 7, in Canelinha (SC). The arrest was made by a task force involving the coordinated action of the Ministério Público do Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS), through the Grupo de Atuação Especial de Combate ao Crime Organizado (GAECO), the Federal Police, the Polícia Militar catarinense, and the Brigada Militar.
In the week preceding the arrest, the Operational Unit of the GAECO/MPRS Coordination, through the "Protetor" project, was activated to assist in the investigations aimed at locating the suspect. Actions carried out in the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region yielded information that contributed to identifying his whereabouts and assisting the authorities responsible for executing the arrest warrant issued by the Santa Catarina court.
JOINT EFFORT
On Monday, during monitoring conducted by the SC State Military Police, the suspect was located while traveling on SC-410 highway. After disobeying the order to stop and attempting to flee, he was apprehended and arrested. The exchange of information between the involved institutions was crucial for locating and capturing the suspect, highlighting the importance of cooperation between public safety agencies in combating interstate crime.
PROTECTOR PROJECT
The PROTECTOR Project is a strategic initiative of the MPRS, coordinated by the GAECO, aimed at locating, apprehending, and reintegrating fugitives from the Justice system into the prison system, with a focus on individuals of high risk and social danger, especially in crimes against vulnerable people. Developed in an integrated manner with the Penitentiary Police and the BM, the project is aimed at recapturing fugitives involved in crimes such as femicide, rape, and violation of electronic monitoring, among others.
