Employees of the Federal Economic Bank will go on an indefinite strike across the country starting this Thursday (10). The decision was approved by a large majority during a meeting held last week.
The strikewas triggered after workers rejected the bank's proposal for the company's health plan, Caixa Saúde.The authority advocates a model where retirees and pensioners start allocating 4.5% of their salary to the plan, instead of the current 3.5%. The family income limit for the health service will also increase from 7% to 9%, and 13 monthly payments per year will still be charged. The amount charged per dependent will rise from R$ 480 to R$ 660.
"The massive rejection centers around Caixa Saúde. The bank wants to impose a differentiated charging model based on age for employees and their dependents, punishing those who need it most and burdening the worker. Our absolute priority is to ensure a fair solution, blocking this setback and preventing further financial impacts on families' incomes," says Rhafael Torres, director of the Federal District Bank Workers' Union.
The Caixa proposal also increases the amount paid for emergency room consultations from R$ 75 to R$ 150. The annual limit for these charges per family rises from R$ 3,600 to R$ 4,800. Indirect dependents will not be included in this limit, and all users will have to pay at least R$ 50.
Bank workersare also demanding changes to their careers and working conditions.With new promotion criteria, right to disconnection, sale of ten days of vacation, and measures for disabled workers. The text also emphasizes the need for health and diversity actions, expansion of permitted absences, and an increase in the Saúde Caixa accredited network.
In a note published on the website, the union informed that Caixa has called a meeting with the National Confederation of Financial Sector Workers (Contraf-CUT) this afternoon (9), to discuss the impasse.
For bank workers' representatives, the mobilization is crucial to put pressure on Caixa during negotiations. "The greater the participation of the category, the greater the pressure on Caixa's management to present a decent proposal for Saúde Caixa, and to value employees and address the other demands. Only with unity and collective action will it be possible to advance in negotiations and emerge victorious," the note highlights.
