The UFSM, through the Directorate of International Relations (DRI), launched theCall for Proposals No. 014/2026 – DRI, which regulates the selection for the face-to-face courses of Chinese 1, Chinese 2, Chinese 3 (1st part), Chinese 3 (2nd part) and Chinese 4 (1st part). This initiative is the result of the partnership between UFSM, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) and the Normal University of Hebei (HEBNU), which aims to offer the UFSM academic community the opportunity to carry out studies that contribute to an international experience, for the training of participants and for the establishment of strategic alliances between the involved institutions.

The courses:

The Chinese 1 course aims to enable the student to communicate in Chinese at a beginner level, through the development of basic notions about greetings, personal introductions, family relationships, expression of dates and times, expression of food and preferences, interactions about time/weather and about means of transport, expressions of courtesy and exchange of goods and services.

The Chinese 2, Chinese 3 (1st part), Chinese 3 (2nd part), and Chinese 4 (1st part) courses aim to enhance basic knowledge of the Chinese language and its ideograms, enabling understanding of the Chinese language and culture in everyday social interactions. From level 3 onwards, the duration of each course is two semesters, hence they are divided into 1st and 2nd parts.

At the end of the semester, students are suggested to take the HSK exam, which is the official Chinese proficiency exam, as a counterpart to the free course offered by Chinese institutions, as stipulated in the regulations.

Classes:

The courses will be held from September to December 2026, in person, at the CLEC Smart Classroom (Building 16, Room 3302, UFSM campus). The complete schedule for each course can be found in the regulations. The Chinese 1A, Chinese 1B, Chinese 2A, Chinese 3 (1st part) A, Chinese 3 (2nd part), and Chinese 4 (1st part) courses will be held in English. The remaining courses will be held in Portuguese.

Registration, selection and ranking:

Any active UFSM employees or students may apply for this selection. The call also provides for vacancies for the external community, for which any residents of Santa Maria may apply.

Registration closes at 23:59 on September 15th. The classification for available vacancies will be determined based on the order of application with complete documentation.

Clarifications and additional information should be obtained exclusively via email:dri.multilateral@ufsm.br, indicating "Call 014/2026 – DRI" as the subject.
