Security Council, 10219th Meeting (PM) Yemen

The Security Council will hold a briefing this afternoon on Yemen following Houthi missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia. Bahrain and the United Kingdom, the Council’s penholder on Yemen, requested the meeting. UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg is expected to brief. Saudi Arabia and Yemen will participate under rule 37, which allows States that are not Council members to join discussions without voting. The briefing follows renewed fighting after the relative calm ushered in by the United Nations-mediated 2022 truce. On 8 September, Houthi attacks in southern Saudi Arabia reportedly injured 73 people. The group said they were retaliation for an alleged Saudi strike that killed seven people in Yemen’s Al-Jawf.
