China is deeply concerned about escalating tensions in Yemen and the Red Sea that have caused civilian casualties and damage to energy and other civilian facilities, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday.

"Attacks targeting civilian facilities related to people's livelihoods are unacceptable," Guo said at a press conference.

Regional instability does not serve the interests of any party, and the sovereignty and security of all countries should be respected, Guo said, adding that resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means is the only way forward.

China urged relevant parties to exercise restraint, ease tensions through communication and dialogue and work to de-escalate the situation as soon as possible, he said.
