Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, met with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in Strasbourg, France.

Prime Minister Carney thanked President Metsola for the invitation to speak before the European Parliament.

The Prime Minister and the presidents discussed work underway to deepen the Canada-European Union (EU) partnership in key areas, including critical minerals, energy, defence, research and development, and advanced technologies.

In a more dangerous and divided world, Canada is forging stronger relationships with trusted partners to build greater strategic autonomy, resilience, and sovereignty. As a close, trusted partner with shared values, the Prime Minister underscored the EU’s central role in these efforts.

The leaders agreed to remain in close contact.
