TheLaw 15.507/26The bridge, named Heitor Miranda dos Santos, is the Brazilian section of the bridge over the Paraguay River, between Porto Murtinho (MS) and Carmelo Peralta (Paraguay), on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The bridge is in the final stage of construction and it is expected to be inaugurated by next year.
The law, originating from Legislative Bill 780/23, authored by Deputy Geraldo Resende (União-MS), was sanctioned by the acting President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, and published in the Official Gazette of the Union on Tuesday (22).
Heitor Miranda served as mayor of Porto Murtinho from 2013 to 2016. He passed away in 2022 at the age of 69. According to the proposer, Miranda was a "visionary public figure and was aware of the importance of his actions for the well-being of the population; his notable and enthusiastic defense of the need to build the Bioceanic Route dates back to the 1980s".
"Since that time, he worked to convince national and international authorities of the viability and importance of the Bioceanic Corridor for the development of the Central-West region and for improving the transport of goods and passengers between the participating countries," explained the parliamentarian.
For the rapporteur in the Chamber of Deputies, Deputy Camila Jara (PT-MS), discussing the Bioceanic Route is to recognize Brazilians as part of the Latin American people.
