The agenda of the 159th Ordinary Meeting of the National Council of Federal Education Institutions (Conif) began this Tuesday (September 1st) in Brasília.
The opening session was dedicated to discussions about the political situation in the country and its impact on Federal Institutions, Federal Technology Education Centers, and the Pedro II College. The lecture was moderated by the president of Conif, Júlio Xandro Heck, and delivered by political scientist Creomar de Souza.
"Today we had two tasks: the first was to talk a little about the political situation and the national political structure, as well as the challenges facing the Network in the context of the electoral process. And the second, equally important, was to reflect on the risks and needs that this transition period brings to the Network, thinking about the challenges of the budget and the political construction of 2027," explained Creomar.
The program for this Tuesday also included a presentation on the importance of integrity management in institutions, with the participation of the Secretary of Public Integrity of the Federal Audit Office (CGU), Patrícia Alvares, and the presentation of Reditec 2026, led by the rector of the Federal Institute of Northern Minas Gerais (IFNMG), Joaquina Nobre.
Until Thursday (September 3rd), the program will include topics such as the presentation of the new federal consultant in Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of the Federal Attorney General's Office (AGU), presentation of the Contrata Mais Brasil platform, analysis and debate on Portaria nº 713 and the changes in the Budget Matrix related to distance education and agricultural costs. The agenda will be closed with the participation of the Secretary of Professional and Technological Education of the Ministry of Education (Setec/MEC).
Budget and student retention coordination
In parallel with the Conif meeting, in the early afternoon, the Presidency of Conif continued its institutional agenda with meetings with representatives of the Federal Government and the National Congress. The discussions focused on reinforcing the budget allocated to school meals and student assistance in the Federal Network.
At the Palácio do Planalto, the Conif council members met with the Minister of the Secretariat-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Guilherme Boulos. Subsequently, part of the delegation proceeded to the Ministry of Education (MEC), where they dialogued with Minister Leonardo Barchini, the President of the Education Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Benes Leocádio, and Federal Deputy Rodrigo Rollemberg.
The mobilization is part of the articulations that Conif has been carrying out since 2023 with the Federal Government and the National Congress, seeking to strengthen student assistance and expand resources for school meals, contributing to ensuring conditions of permanence and success for students in the Federal Network.
According to the president of Conif, Júlio Xandro Heck, the current political moment requires expanding dialogue beyond the Ministry of Education. "For some time, Conif has been making movements with various government bodies and agents in search of reinforcement in resources for school meals. We understand that it is important to seek support beyond the MEC, with other ministries, parliamentarians, and the Presidency of the Republic," he stated.
Júlio also explained that the meeting with Minister Guilherme Boulos is part of this strategy to expand interlocutors and strengthen the agenda within the Federal Government.
"The movement, together with Minister Boulos, was another step towards ensuring permanent school meals for our students," he concluded.
