The João XXIII Application College of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) received the "Red Bank" on last Friday, 4, as a symbol of the national campaign to combat femicide and violence against women. The initiative, which involves various institutions throughout the country, seeks to broaden reflection on the issue, promote support and reinforce the recognition that violence against women is part of the daily lives of many.
During the ceremony, Eliete Verbena, the specialized UFJF affirmative action ombudsman, highlighted the importance of expanding spaces for listening and attention to people who are often invisibilized in daily life. According to her, in addition to reflection, it is necessary to strengthen permanent actions to combat violence. "The ombudsman, in its role, exists for support and listening that is not restricted to a single space. It is necessary for it to happen in different places of coexistence. And here at João XXIII, I was able to see the power of this school in combating violence, in its commitment to a society through education and more human relationships," said Eliete.

Campaign reaches federal universities
This is the first year that the National Association of Directors of Federal Higher Education Institutions (Andifes) is participating in the campaign. The rector of UFJF, Girlene Alves, highlights that the entity has identified in the initiative an opportunity to strengthen policies to combat femicide and broaden the debate within federal universities.
The network includes 69 federal universities, as well as two CEFETs and other campuses, with a presence in approximately 400 municipalities. At UFJF, the option was to install a mobile bank, which travels through different units of the University, in Juiz de Fora and Governador Valadares. "In early March, on International Women's Day, the banks began to be installed in the universities. We chose to have a mobile bank, which is passing through all the units of UFJF and Governador Valadares, so that we can not only think of a temporary campaign, but also make it possible for this reflection against femicide and against all forms of violence against women to be permanently part of our daily lives," explains the rector.

Space for education and awareness
The General Director of CAp João XXIII, Felipe Bastos, explains that the installation of the "Red Bank" is integrated with other actions developed by the school and is related to the educational pathways of High School.
"This ceremony is a culmination of the moment we are living with the educational pathways of High School, in which students have the opportunity to delve into topics beyond what we foresee in the basic curriculum, the traditional one. And, in the case of the "Red Bank", it will integrate the educational pathway with the aim of promoting an educational space for information, reflection, dialogue and awareness about the different types of violence that different subjects experience in society, especially in relation to the daily lives of young people," he highlights.
Felipe also invited the men present at the ceremony to reflect on the role of each one in combating violence against women.
The ceremony also included the presence of the Deputy Vice-Dean of Student Assistance, Fabiane Rossi dos Santos; the Director of Education, Fernando Lamas; coordinators of segments; teachers and teachers; educational administrative technicians (TAEs); and students of the João XXIII Application College.
