Kametstal plant halts operations following Russian missile attack

Metinvest reported this, according to Ukrinform.

“Overnight on September 5, Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on the Kametstal plant in Kamianske. Five people were killed and four more employees were injured in the attack. Key production facilities and infrastructure were damaged, forcing the plant to completely halt its operations. This is yet another attack on a civilian Metinvest steelmaking facility and further evidence of Russia’s systematic strikes against Ukraine’s industrial base,” the company said.

According to the statement, during the attack, Russian forces used a tactic they had previously employed against Ukrainian industrial enterprises: only a few minutes passed between the air raid alert being issued and the missile strike, leaving insufficient time for all employees to reach shelters.

The holding company emphasized that there were no military targets, military equipment or military production facilities on the premises of the Kametstal.

The attack damaged the plant’s sintering and blast-furnace operations, as well as its energy and transport infrastructure. The plant was forced to completely suspend all production processes.

Urgent emergency and recovery work is currently underway at the facility. Once the debris has been cleared, specialists will gain access to the damaged areas and conduct a comprehensive inspection of the equipment and infrastructure to assess the extent of the destruction and determine possible next steps for restoring production.

The timeline for restoring and restarting production remains unknown.

As reported, September 5 has been declared a day of mourning in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region, for the five victims of the Russian attack. Four more plant employees were injured.
