The Federal Institute of Roraima (IFRR) won 19 medals in the North stage of the Federal Institutes Games (JIFs Norte 2026), which concluded on Friday, September 4, in Porto Velho (RO). The Roraimense delegation secured nine gold, six silver, and four bronze medals in individual and team events, with destaque for athletics, judo, chess, and futsal and basketball teams.
This stage, held from August 31 to September 4, brought together more than 700 student-athletes and staff from the seven federal institutes in the North Region. 78 student-athletes and 12 staff members represented IFRR, totaling a delegation of 90 people.
Among the individual events, athletics had the highest number of wins for IFRR, with eight medals: two gold, four silver, and two bronze. Judo secured four medals, three gold and one silver. In chess, one gold and one silver medal were won. Swimming and table tennis also reached the podium, with one bronze medal each.
In the team events, three IFRR teams won the regional title. The men's futsal, women's futsal, and women's basketball teams won the gold medal.
For the Rector of IFRR, Nilra Jane Filgueira, the performance of the students also represents the result of an experience that goes beyond the sporting competition. "It is a great joy and pride to see our student-athletes participating in the JIFs and representing IFRR and our state so well. More than competing, they are experiencing a formative, overcoming, conviviality, and teamwork experience," she said.
In addition to the medals, the results achieved in the regional stage can guarantee the student-athletes qualification for the national stage of the JIFs, scheduled to take place from October 18 to 23 in Goiânia (GO), under the organization of the Federal Institute of Goiás (IFG).
Participation in the JIFs marks the journey of students who had, in Porto Velho, their first experience in a regional competition outside of Roraima. The preparation for the games involved physical and technical training throughout the year, as well as team integration work.
