The 28th edition of the International Book Fair of São Paulo will take place between September 4 and 13, 2026, in the Paulista capital. "I wrote this book so that it is the first book for many people from the broken community, with spaces, with a larger letter, that is quick, that flows. I want someone in the broken community to say: 'My first book was that of this guy who lives in my broken community,'" says Vaz.
Sergio Vaz says that Cooperifa — a cultural and literary movement from the periphery born in 2000 — is in a period of pause "sabatic and dominical" to reinvent itself. He highlights that the movement has already had a significant impact on the most marginalized communities of the city.
I believe that Cooperifa's great legacy was to create citizen artists. Those who, through their art, may not revolutionize the world, but also do not dumb down a people lacking opportunities. [This legacy] came along with hip-hop, the struggle of the Black movement, and we realized that the issue is not to move from the periphery, but to change the periphery.
When commenting on the electoral process, the writer highlights the power of the vote. 'Voting is doing justice with your own hands, that's what the people can do. These corrupt ones, these slackers, these guys who have been usurping our rights for 500 years, the only chance we have to get back at them is at the ballot box. It's not everything, but it's something.
The poet also emphasizes that he tries to contribute to the vote reflection through his writing. 'Leaving home to return, take a look at your neighborhood. Look at what you have and what you don't have. Just that already motivates you not to vote for those guys. Look at the horror show that Congress is today. The far right causing those embarrassments.'
