Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže said Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s grain infrastructure are driven by Moscow’s desire to starve the world.

According to Ukrinform, she said this in a post on X.

Braže was responding to a post by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who described the aftermath of Russian airstrikes on Ukraine overnight on August 27.

“Russia wants to starve the world. Attacks on grain infrastructure, ports, and maritime routes harm ~400 million people globally, including in some of the most vulnerable countries,” she wrote.

In his post, Sybiha called on partners to provide additional support packages ahead of winter and take immediate steps to mitigate the impact of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s grain exports.

As reported by Ukrinform, global wheat prices rose by 3.7–6.6% amid an escalation of Russia’s war against Ukraine. After several days of declining intensity, heavy Russian strikes resumed on Odesa and Ukraine’s port infrastructure, along with intense ballistic attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
