Four professors from UFSM were awarded the "The Future of the Earth" prize on Monday evening (31st) at the Expointer in Esteio. The award is from the Jornal do Comércio and the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (Fapergs) and is in its 30th edition. The objective is to honor researchers who have made a significant contribution to the evolution of agricultural production.
The awarded professors were Antônio Luis Santi, Ricardo Zambarda Vaz, Tatiana Emanuelli and Renato Zanella. In addition to the UFSM professors, another 10 researchers from federal universities, secretariats and companies were also awarded at the30th edition of the "The Future of the Earth" award..
The Pro-rector of Postgraduate and Research (PRPGP) of UFSM, Cristina Wayne Nogueira, represented the UFSM management at the ceremony.
UFSM Faculty Wins Award
Antônio Luis Santi:Graduated in Agronomy from UFSM, in Santa Maria. Master's degree in Plant Production in the Department of Zootecnia, from 2001 to 2003, and doctorate in Soil Sciences with a focus on Precision Agriculture in the Department of Soils at UFSM, in 2007. Since 2009, he has been a faculty member in the Agronomy program at UFSM, in Frederico Westphalen. The faculty member was awarded the "The Future of the Earth" award in the category "Production Chains and Agricultural Alternatives".
Renato Zanella:Graduated and Master's in Industrial Chemistry from UFSM. Doctorate in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Dortmund, in Germany, with postdoctoral studies at the University of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Renato has been a faculty member at UFSM since 1994. Since 2014, he has been working in the Department of Chemistry at the Center for Natural and Exact Sciences. He is also the coordinator of the Laboratory for Pesticide Residue Analysis (LARP) at UFSM. Renato was one of the winners of the award in the category "Environmental Preservation".
Ricardo Zambarda Vaz:Graduated and master's degree in Zootecnia from UFSM. Holds a doctorate in the same field from UFRGS. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Zootecnia and Biological Sciences at UFSM, in Palmeira das Missões. Ricardo is also actively involved as a supervisor for master's and doctoral programs in the Postgraduate Program in Agriculture and the Postgraduate Program in Zootecnia. The professor won the award in the category "Production Chains and Agricultural Alternatives".
Tatiana Emanuelli:Graduated in Pharmacy - Food Technology from UFSM. Holds a Master's degree in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) also from UFSM. PhD in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) from UFRGS. Currently, she is the Associate Dean for Postgraduate and Research, as well as the Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies at UFSM. Member of the state board of RS in the Brazilian Society of Science and Technology of Food. Currently, she is a faculty member in the Pharmacy program at UFSM.
