The Judicial Police, through the Criminal Investigation Department of Braga, arrested yesterday, in flagrante delito, the alleged perpetrator of three forest fires, which occurred on the 16th, 17th and 18th of August, in the parish of Ribas, Celorico de Basto municipality.
The fires, deliberately set, were lit in locations with conditions conducive to the spread of the forest, generating a significant risk to the entire forest, agricultural fields and several dwellings in the area.
It should be noted that the ignitions occurred on hot, dry days, with wind and high temperatures, further increasing the risk of forest fires.
Following notification to this Police, immediate investigation was carried out, and evidence was collected that imputes the authorship of the three forest fires to the defendant.
The defendant acted for personal reasons, fully aware that her conduct was prohibited by law and posed an imminent danger to nature, third parties and property.
The detainee, a 80-year-old woman residing in that parish, will be present to the competent authority today, Friday, for the first judicial interrogation and application of coercive measures.
