Vladimir Putin sent greetings to President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on the country’s national holiday, Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus.

The message reads, in part:

“This day is a cause for celebration and has special significance not only for Belarusians, but also for the Russian people, since this holiday has its roots in a glorious page from our shared history – the liberation of Minsk from Nazi invaders.

Forged during the harsh war years, the bonds of fraternal friendship and mutual support have been and still are serving as a solid foundation for enhancing allied relations between Russia and Belarus. Moscow and Minsk have been working together productively in all areas, coordinating their efforts in countering external threats and challenges.

I am convinced that by further expanding our multifaceted partnerships and reinforcing the Union State’s institutions, we will overcome any challenges with honour, protect our legitimate interests on the international stage and ensure a decent future for our people.

Please accept my heartfelt wishes of good health and success and convey my wishes of welfare and prosperity to the people of Belarus.”
