SVRGSP The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Northwestern Jackson County in western North Carolina... Eastern Swain County in western North Carolina... * Until 630 PM EDT. * At 546 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 6 miles northwest of Sylva, or near Cherokee, moving northwest at 10 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and power lines. * Locations impacted include... Bryson City, Cherokee, Whittier, Alarka, the B.R. Parkway between the Smoky Mountains and Balsam Gap, plus a portion of Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the following areas, Deep Creek, Oconaluftee, Kuwohi, and Newfound Gap.
