Super Typhoon Bavi is currently located about 500 miles to the north-
northwest of Chuuk near 13.4N 148.1E and is moving west-northwest at
10 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 165 mph. Bavi is expected to
continue moving generally to the west-northwest through the next 24
hours, passing through the Marianas on Monday. Although Yap and
Palau are expected to remain outside of Bavi's direct wind field,
surging west to southwest winds around 20 to 30 knots with gusts to
40 knots are expected to develop across the region south to
southwest of the storm. West winds around 15 to 20 knots will begin
to pick up for Yap and Palau tonight, peaking sometime early this
week with potential to generate choppy, hazardous seas which could
make inter-island travel hazardous. As STY Bavi develops and begins
to move north to northeast of the region, a surging west to
southwest swell looks to develop, which will lead to elevated, and
potentially hazardous surf in the first half of this week.
