Super Typhoon Bavi is currently located about 500 miles to the north-
northwest of Chuuk near 13.4N 148.1E and is moving west-northwest at
10 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 165 mph. Chuuk is currently
located within strengthening west-southwest inflow on the far
southern periphery of Super Typhoon Bavi, and will remain within its
peripheral influence in the next few days as the storm strengthens
and continues moving toward the Marianas.
Chuuk is expected to remain outside of the direct wind field of
Bavi, but surging southwest winds around 20 to 25 knots are expected
to continue across the region south of the storm. These winds will
maintain seas hazardous to small craft, and a Small Craft Advisory
remains in effect for Chuuk through at least Tuesday morning. Inter-
island travel will be hazardous and should be avoided. Additionally,
west to southwest swell looks to build as Super Typhoon Bavi
develops and moves away, which will lead to hazardous surf of 9 to
11 feet. Thus, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect through at
least Tuesday morning. At the same time, chances for locally heavy
showers will increase through early this week as the strong west to
southwest flow across the region funnels deep moisture into the
trailing convergence behind Super Typhoon Bavi. Near-gale to
gale-force gusts are expected, especially near heavier showers.

Tropical Cyclone Public Advisory issued by the National Weather
Service under WMO header WTPQ31 PGUM and the Tropical Cyclone
Warning issued by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center under WMO header
