Russian naval forces taking part in the "Joint Sea-2026" exercise with China arrived at the military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province, on Sunday, where they rendezvoused with their Chinese counterparts.

Participating forces from both navies are now assembled for the drills.

The Russian contingent includes the Varyag missile cruiser; the frigate Surovy; the large submarine Ufa; and the rescue ship Igor Belousov. China is represented by the Kaifeng and Anshan destroyers; the frigate Wuhu; the comprehensive supply ship Kekexilihu; the submarine rescue ship Yangchenghu; and one submarine. Both sides have also deployed shipborne helicopters and marines.

The exercise under the theme, "joint response to maritime security threats," will unfold in three stages: force assembly, port-side planning, and at-sea drills. It aims to demonstrate both sides' resolve and capability to respond jointly to maritime security threats, safeguard international and regional peace and stability, and further deepen the China–Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.
