General Assembly, 97th & 98th Meetings (AM & PM) 6 July 2026

At 10 a.m., the General Assembly will hold a day-long debate on the responsibility to protect and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. The Assembly has before it the Secretary-General's latest report on the topic (document A/80/716-S/2026/362), prepared pursuant to Assembly resolution 75/277. The report analyses analyses the current context of atrocity crimes and sets out options for sustaining the commitment on the responsibility to protect at the national, regional and multilateral levels. It also proposes ways to embed prevention and protection perspectives into public policy during periods of stability, emerging risk, active crisis and post-conflict recovery.
