The Ukrainian side considers it inappropriate to use the European Parliament to discuss bilateral historical issues with Poland and confirms its readiness for constructive dialogue.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi said this in a comment to journalists, Ukrinform reports.

Tykhyi noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took note of the adoption of the European Parliament's report on the European Commission's report regarding Ukraine for 2025.

He added that the Ukrainian side welcomes strong signals of support — both in confronting Russian aggression and on the path to the EU. At the same time, Tykhyi noted that during the consideration, certain political actors decided to use the European Parliament platform to draw attention to bilateral issues in the Ukrainian-Polish historical dialogue and to introduce relevant amendments to the document.

"We consider such actions inappropriate. Ukraine and Poland should discuss difficult historical issues specifically in a bilateral format and within the framework of professional dialogue between historians, experts, and relevant state institutions. There are appropriate platforms for this, including the Congress of Historians," the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

According to him, our consistent position is that the Ukrainian and Polish peoples are partners and allies, united by a shared responsibility for Europe's security and a common response to the main threat — Russian aggression.

"That is why the efforts of our states and partners should be directed toward strengthening unity and jointly countering the Russian Federation," the Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized.

He confirmed Ukraine's readiness for constructive Ukrainian-Polish dialogue on all difficult issues of shared history, which would meet the long-term interests of both states and strengthen European unity.

As Ukrinform reported, Members of the European Parliament called for constructive discussion on ways to advance Ukraine's European integration, taking into account the strategic interests of the EU. In the context of renaming a military unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), Members of the European Parliament "regret the disregard for Polish sensitivities and grief and believe that this decision undermines neighborly relations, calling for de-escalation and renewed goodwill efforts toward reconciliation."
