Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the current and former workers of the Russian mining and metals production sector on their professional holiday, Metallurgist’s Day.
The message reads, in part:
“Metallurgist is a profession well-knit with strong and solid traditions, workers’ dynasties, camaraderie and solidarity. Metallurgical enterprises have always boasted professionals of the highest calibre – miners and steelmakers, rolling mill operators and foundry specialists, blast-furnace operators and smelters, researchers and academics. Their production victories and creative achievements have made a tremendous contribution to the industrial development of the Russian regions, to expanding the country’s defence, industrial and energy potential, and to major infrastructure projects.
Importantly, the current generation of metallurgists commendably continues its predecessors’ mission despite serious challenges. Your key priorities today include broad implementation of modern environmental standards, advanced technology and engineering solutions, boosting the competitive ability of Russian metal products, and reaching new prospective markets. Obviously, it is also essential to focus on professional training, and the social welfare of the industry’s current and retired workers.
I firmly believe that you will successfully handle these tasks for the benefit of the Fatherland and our nation.”
