Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the initiative of the Brazilian side.
The leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral relationship in various areas, following up on the meeting of the Russian-Brazilian High-Level Commission on Cooperation held earlier this year, as well as other contacts. Particular attention is to be paid to expanding and diversifying bilateral trade.
There was an exchange of views on current international issues, including the situation surrounding Ukraine. Vladimir Putin thanked his Brazilian counterpart for his efforts to help find a political and diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict.
The two leaders confirmed that Russia and Brazil have identical or similar stances on many important global issues. They agreed to maintain close coordination at the UN and on other multilateral platforms.
