As noted in Section 7.3 of ROSES-25 A.1 Earth Science Research Overview, “High-end computing, networking, and storage are critical enabling capabilities for Earth system science…and maintains appropriate high-end computing, networking, and storage for use by the SMD funded investigators. Computing resources are provided through various ROSES program elements. Over the past several years, computational resources have become significantly constrained.”

Last September, it was announced that that use of the NASA Center for Climate Simulation high-end computing facility would cost $0.09/SBU.

On or about August 4, 2026, this charge has been extended to all proposing to Earth Science (ROSES Appendix A) to use any NASA high-end computing resource. Proposers must account for this in their budget per the instructions provided in Section 7.3 of ROSES-25 A.1 Earth Science Research Overview.

Also, Sections 1.4 and 2 of A.1 Earth Science Research Overview have been updated to reflect how the research program will now be solicited in the context of research “spheres”. New Text is in bold and deleted text is struck through.

Questions concerning this change in billing for ROSES Earth Science (Appendix A) any NASA high-end computing resources may be directed to David Considine, at david.b.considine@nasa.gov.
