TEHRAN, Aug. 09 (MNA) –The Iranian foreign minister has stressed the country remains committed to the resistance and safeguarding its independence despite mounting pressures, saying the country has chosen to stand firm rather than submit to coercion.

Speaking at a ceremony titled “Muharram and Ashura in the Mirror of Foreign Ministry Documents”, held at the Foreign Ministry’s Institute for Political and International Studies in Tehran on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi stated the Ashura uprising represents a lasting model of standing against oppression, deviation and corruption and defending human dignity.

Iran's top diplomat noted this year’s Muharram and Ashura ceremonies in Iran have taken on a different character following an unjust attack on Iran by the US and the Zionist regime, which resulted in the martyrdom of many Iranians.

Araghchi pointed out that Iranian people witnessed the martyrdom of numerous people, including members of the Armed Forces and civilians, but “stood firmly and courageously for their dignity and independence,” demonstrating that they had lived the message of Ashura.

The minister said nations facing decisive moments throughout history have had to choose between surrendering to oppression and standing up for their values and ideals, even at the cost of their lives.

Referring to the legacy of Imam Hussein (AS), the foreign minister said courage is measured not by conquest but by readiness for sacrifice in defense of one’s principles. He cited the principle that “death with dignity is more honorable than a life of humiliation,” describing it as the enduring logic of resistance.

“With this ideological and, of course, strategic understanding, Iran has stood firm on its commitment to resistance despite all pressures and, God willing, will continue to stand firm,” Araghchi stressed.
