Saeed Khatibzadeh, head of the Institute for Political and International Studies of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, announced on Sunday that the ministry will launch the “Martyr Kamal Kharrazi Documentation Center.”
Speaking at a ceremony titled “Muharram and Ashura in the Mirror of Foreign Ministry Documents”, Khatibzadeh paid tribute to Kharrazi, recalling that the Foreign Ministry’s Documentation Center was established during his tenure.
He described the center as one of the legacies of the late diplomat.
He added that the “Martyr Kamal Kharrazi Documentation Center” will soon be officially inaugurated in his name, alongside a dedicated museum for the Foreign Ministry’s documents.
Khatibzadeh further said the ministry has opened access to more than 50 million documents concerning diplomacy and foreign relations as part of Iran’s specialized archive.
Kharrazi, who served as Iran’s foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 and as the country’s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN from 1989 to 1997, was a prominent advocate of multilateralism, international law and diplomacy. He also participated regularly in the annual “Leaders for Peace” conference in Paris and emphasized peaceful means of resolving disputes.
