The Public Prosecutor's Office of Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS) has favorably responded to the request for preventative detention of a man being investigated for sexual abuse of a vulnerable person, against his own six-year-old son. The measure was ordered by the courts and carried out on Wednesday, September 2nd. The opinion of the MPRS was presented by Prosecutor Guilherme Modesti Donin.
According to the investigation, the abuse occurred on different occasions in the municipalities of Santo Antônio das Missões and São Luiz Gonzaga, between 2025 and 2026. The case came to the attention of authorities after reports from the child to family members. Among the evidence gathered during the investigation are witness testimonies and a forensic report.
In stating his favorable position on pre-trial detention, Prosecutor Guilherme Donin pointed to the existence of evidence of authorship and materiality, as well as the need to ensure public order and the regularity of the criminal proceedings: "In addition to the facts established in this procedure, the defendant is already subject to a criminal action for similar crimes committed against two other victims, and is also the subject of new investigations involving other children. This context reveals a pattern of conduct that cannot be ignored and demonstrates a concrete risk of repetition of crimes of the same nature. Therefore, we believe that pre-trial detention was the appropriate measure to protect potential victims and ensure the proper continuation of the investigations," he stated.
